The growth of Rustenburg, which has surpassed expectations has had unintended consequences for the City’s road network. Large volumes of traffic including heavy vehicles have significantly reduced the life span of the City’s roads which are critical in advancing the economic objectives of Rustenburg through the transportation of goods and workers in the various sectors.
One the roads which has been successfully completed is the Tlhabane intersection of Lebone and Dr. Moroka roads which has deteriorated mainly due to the high traffic volume coupled with heavy vehicles which transported good to and from the industrial area. Some of the work which has been done to date include during the month of December include the re-gravelling of internal roads in Lekgalong village, road marking in Geelhout, pothole patching in Meriting Extension 2.
Some of the areas under the jurisdiction of the RLM which have been serviced in respect of road network maintenance include Boitekong Extension 2, Tlhabane West, Zinniaville, Waterfall East, Rustenburg CBD, Tlhabane, Protea
Park and Safari Tuine. The Project Management Unit (PMU) has enabled the Roads and Storm Water Unit to register considerable progress in the rehabilitation of internal roads in some of our areas such as Tlhabane, where large road portions which had deteriorated have been rehabilitated.
The RLM expresses its gratitude to the residents who had to endure unfavourable road conditions, as well as the inconvenience experienced during travelling around the City, during the time the rehabilitation projects were unfolding.
End.
